What’s Coming Up? (August 2016)

Is it just me, or did this summer fly by? In fact, it seems like it goes faster and faster each year! Soon, you’re going to be back in school and doing homework (I’m sorry; it’s just the reality). But for now, don’t think about that. Think about the last few weeks of this summer where we’re going to have some fun and enjoy the good weather and no homework!

Below is the upcoming schedule for our 5-12th grade student ministries at RCC…

Whitewater Rafting and Camping (August 13-14)
All soon-to-be 9th graders through freshmen in college are invited to join us for a night of camping and day of whitewater rafting on the Kennebec River in Maine. Sign up by the first week of August to save your spot! The cost is $100, which will cover your transportation, camping, breakfast on Sunday, and lunch on Sunday. We’ll be going with Crabapple Whitewater Rafting, which means it will be a professionally guided tour. Click here to register online for the trip!

Community Game Quest (August 17)
Our second Community Game Quest of 2016 will be held at Mary Fisk Elementary School from 5:00-9:00 PM. As a reminder, this event is for the entire family, so bring your parents and younger siblings with you! In fact, buy a ticket for another family and bring them with you! You can buy your tickets online or in the RCC foyer on a Sunday morning. Click here to buy tickets online!

Family Camping Trip (August 19-21)
The annual family camping trip is August 19-21 at Seven Maples Campground (The Grove campsite). The camp offers a brand new pool with water slides, nearby hiking trails up Mount Monadnock, fishing, kayak rentals, and nice wooded campsites. This is another all-family event, so bring along your parents and younger siblings! The cost is $38 per night for a site. Contact Gail Martin for more details.

Other Events this Month
As we have all summer, throughout the month, we’ll have some game nights and movie nights, go grab lunch at the mall or ice cream some evening, and other events. Be sure to follow us on social media for these events, as they will be more spontaneous with only a couple days notice (we like to keep you on your toes)! [Follow us on Twitter | Like us on Facebook | Follow us on Instagram]

Looking Forward to the Fall
We will start back with our weekly programs the week after Labor Day (The Middle on September 7, High School on September 11). Also, be sure to help out or participate in the SalemFest 5K on September 17. All funds raised will go to Stand Up Salem, a local anti-drug coalition. We’ll also be doing Serving Salem Together again this fall, a full day of serving our neighbors in the Salem area by doing yard work and light home repair.

Looking Even Further Ahead
Mark two big dates on your calendars for 2017! The first is February 3-5, when we’re going on our winter retreat, “Deep Freeze,” at Camp Berea. The other date is February 26-March 4, when we’re taking a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. If you want to join this team, come to the informational meeting at RCC on August 3 at 7:00 PM. We need commitments, though, by August 7.

The Middle Movie Night (July 17)
We’re going to Chunky’s in Pelham to see “The Secret Life of Pets,” and we’d love for all 5-8th graders to join us! The movie starts around 6:30, but make sure you show up at 6:00, so we can get seats together! Feel free to invite a friend, too!! The cost is $7.99 (buy your tickets online ahead of time!!), but make sure you bring extra money if you also want some popcorn, a drink, or other food!

workcampNE Mission Trip (July 24-30)
Our high school and college students will join several other area churches for a mission trip in Berlin, NH, with workcampNE. Please keep this group in your prayers as they go and serve others with home repair. Follow along with the team during the week by following @rcc_students on Instagram.

Looking forward to August, we’ll have our high school whitewater rafting trip, game nights, another Community Game Quest, and a family camping trip. Stay tuned to here and the main RCC blog for more information on all that!

As many of you know, our regular Sunday and Wednesday night programs do not meet in the summer. We will resume our regular schedule in September.

What’s Coming Up? (June 2016)

The school year is wrapping up, and summer will soon be here! For all you parents, you’re probably wishing you still had a summer break like you did when you were in school. For all you students, enjoy this while you can!!

This June, we’ll be doing several things around RCC Student Ministries, so we thought we’d fill you in on what’s coming up…

The Middle (5-8th grade)

Our Wednesday night program will end for the school year on June 8. For June 1, we’ll be doing a stand-alone session on comparing the Christian worldview with other worldviews. It’s going to be a great time to ask questions and figure out how Christians are to be different from the world around us (in a good way).

On June 8, we’re going to celebrate the end of school with a big party at Launch trampoline park in Methuen. The plan is to leave RCC right at 6:30 PM in order to make it there on time, so please come early that night! The cost is $10, but if you can’t afford it, don’t let that stop you from coming. We’ll have more information (including the required medical waiver) posted very soon on rccstudents.com, the RCC mobile app, our social channels, email, and more. So check it out, and start to invite your friends!!

Also, starting on June 8, all current 4th graders are invited to join in any activity for The Middle! Welcome to the RCC Student Ministries, all you 4th graders!!

For those in 8th grade, this is your summer to double-up on activities. You can still participate in all The Middle activities, but you’re also invited to join in High School events too. Welcome to High School!!

High School (9-12th grade)

June 4 will be our annual Senior Banquet, where we are celebrating our graduating seniors. Parents of these students should already be in the loop about what is needed from you. We do need a handful of underclassmen to come serve food that night, though. If you can help, please let us know ASAP!

On June 5, we’ll be wrapping up our “In Other Words” series at High School youth group on Sunday nights. For more information about that series, see last month’s blog post.

High Schoolers are also celebrating the end of school with a party on June 12. Instead of meeting at RCC like we usually do, we’re heading over to the Matthieu’s home in Salem (contact us for directions) for a cookout and pool party from 6:00-8:00 PM! (Bring a modest swimsuit and a towel!)

Looking Forward…

As we look forward to the rest of the summer, please stay tuned to this blog and the RCC Students’ social media channels (Facebook | Twitter | Instagram). While our weekly programs will not happen on Sunday and Wednesday nights, we are planning on a few fun outings for both groups this summer. Also, your small group leaders are planning some fun events to get your group together, so be in touch with them!

On July 13 and August 17, we’re inviting your entire family out for Community Game Quest! These two events will have food, life-size games, music, and more! For more information, check out the CGQ blog post on rccsalem.com.

Our current 8-12th graders (and some college students and adults) will be heading to Berlin, NH, for a mission trip with workcampNE. Please keep them in your prayers! If you missed out on this year’s trip, make sure to sign up next year!!
